Study of Proton Scattering

Facing the ever increasing cancer cases around the world, particle therapy renders an effective and accurate solution. There are many advantages in applying proton beam to therapy over photon beam. Bragg peak is the most pronounced character which demonstrates a shape distribution in distal dose delivery. The focus has been turning to narrower lateral distribution which is mainly due to proton scattering. A close examination of scattering angle from different simulations, namely GEANT4, FLUKA, MCNPX/MCNP6, it reveals the differences of models imbedded in simulations. To verify such difference, a novel method was proposed and experiment based it was performed at RCNP, Osaka University, Japan. Description and preliminary result of this experiment shall be presented.
