Edge States in Photonic Merged Lattices

We present an efficient method to find the band structure for two-dimensional photonic crystals, in particluar for the merged lattice, which is obtained as a result of merging two lattices of scatters of the same space group, but with slightly different spatial resonances. Morever, we reveal the existence of surface states in photonic merged lattices, by calculating the dispersion relations and mode patterns with a supercell. These surface states in merged lattices can be engineered easily to create photonic topological states.
