Applications of Polarization Shaped Femtosecond Laser Pulses

This invited talk presents the generation and control of polarization-shaped femtosecond laser pulses. We describe a basic experimental setup for a polarization pulse shaper, together with several simple examples of polarization-shaped pulses. A brief historical view of experimental results is provided for multiphoton photoionization, forced molecular rotation, nano-optics, and selective enantiomeric purification. We also show our recent results on arbitrary waveform shaping in a terahertz frequency region and optical vectorial control of lattice vibrations.
